The theta activity which appears in the frontal midline area during performance of mental tasks been designated as Fmθ. In the present atudy, the potency of CM6912 as an anixiolytic was investigated using Fmθas compared with diazepam. Sixteen male university students were given placebo, diazepam 5 mg, CM6912 2 mg and 4 mg in a double-blind, crossover design. Scores were made on the state anxiety scale of Spielberger`s State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), EEDs were recorded before and during performance of an arithmetic addition. The test was repeated twice, before and 1 hr after drug administration. Placebo increased Fmθ
