Three species of Genus Bacillus were cultivated in the nutrient broth and pellicles formed on the broth surface were observed under scanning electron microscopy. The results obtained were as follows : All pellicles were composed of two components, such as amorphous substance and cell bodies. The thick layer of amorphous substance occupied upper half of pellicle and showed the smooth surface, and the thick zone of cell bodies also occupied the lower half of pellicle, and showed a rough image of the medium side of pellicle in both Bacillus subtilis and B. aneurinolyticus.
