Descriptions
Several conditions for the flagellation of 2 strains of Yersinia enterocolitica were investigated. Especially, the effects of the combined addition of 2 or 3 kinds of salts containing bivalent anion, and of the cultivation temperature and pH were examined. The data were statistically analyzed. The results were as follows : 1) Combination of 2 or 3 kinds of salts, such as Na_2CO_3, Na_2HPO_4 and Na_2SO_4 in the culture media was proved to be effective on the flagellation at 37℃, but was less effective than a single salt. 2) The combined effect of salts on the flagellation was neither additive nor synergistics. 3) The pH value of the culture media was one of the most important factors for the flagellation. Especially, the pH values before and after adding of salts to the culture media remarkably affected the flagellation at both 27℃ and 37℃. The optimal pH values before and after adding of salts at 27℃ were between 5.2 and 7.4, and between 7.4 and 9.8, respectively. And those before and after adding at 37℃ were between 5.4 and 7.4, and between 7.4 and 9.8, respectively. 4) The flagellation at 27℃ on the agar plates containing plural kinds of salts were not significantly different from that at 37℃. 5) One or two flagella were usually observed on the cells in each strain of Y. enterocolitica on the agar plates with plural kinds of salts. 6) Both of 2 strains used in this experiment provided similar results in number of flagellated cells on the agar plates with plural kinds of salts.
