We recently found two varient hemoglobin in a survet of 1,970 cord bloods collected in Yamaguchi prefecture. One was a fast moving varient like Hb J and the other a slow moving hemoglobin similar to Hb S. The former proved to be a varient of αchain and the latter that of γ chain by urea polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the globin. The γchain varient was purified by DE-52 column chromatography.
