Exercise Echocardiography Interventricular Septal Thickness and Motion in Patients with Effort Angina and Variant Angina During Ergometer Exercise

To detect abnormal interventricular septal (IVS) wall motion during exercise-induced ischemia, we performed ergometer exercise echocardiograchy using a specially deviced transducer on 17 patients (pts) with left anterior descending artery (LAD) disease and 10 normal subjects (N) at rest, and during exercise and recovery. During exercise, percent systolic IVS thickening (%△Th) and IVS excursion (Ex) increased from 52±13% at rest to 74±19% and and from 7.0±1.4mn at rest to 10.6±2.0mn, respectively, in N, and also from 48±20% to 61±32% and from 8.4±2.3mm to 10.6±2.2mm in 5 pts with organic distal LAD lesion…
