Descriptions
Preparation of crude extract for superoxide dismutase (SOD) assay was refered to the method of Winterbourn et al. and measured by the method of Imanari et al.. In order to obtain the highest SOD activity the volumes of ethanol used for extracting were found to be 1.0ml for erythrocytes and 4.0ml for tissue, respectively. The satidfied results were shown on the recoverbility and the reproducibility by the present method. The mean of SOD activities of erythrocytes from 61 normal dogs was 17.3 units/mgHb, and 5% rejection limits were 10.7 and 28.1 units/mgHb. The levels of SOD activities of liver and kidney were three or four times higher and that of small intestine, intraperitoneal fat, muscle and lung was less than half of erythrocyte SOD activity.
