A 79-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of exertional pectoralgia and dyspnea. An abnormal mass shadow on chest roentgenogram had been noted 7 years prior, and the patient had been followed up in our hospital. A CT scan obtained upon the present admission revealed that the tumor had increased in size, and surgery was performed. Tumor in the thoracic cavity adhered tightly to the pericardium, so the tumor with pericardium was resected, and the defect was filled with a Gore Tex Sheet. Based on histopathologic and surgical findings, the tumor was diagnosed as a pericardial liposarcoma. The tumor was considered well-differentiated according to the Enzinger classification system and predominantly well-differentiated according to theWHO classification system. Liposarcoma shows the low sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and recurrence is often seen. Complete surgical resection is considered mandatory.
