Amniotic fluid proteins were analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis in the absence of denaturing agents. Amniotic fluids were obtained from healthy pregnant women between 17 and 40 weeks' gestation. Results are as follws.: 1) There were no significant changes in the pattern of protein localizations in the amniotic fluid during the course of pregnancy. 2) There was no high molecular weight protein, except Ig G and Ig and A, in the amniotic fulid. 3) Transferrin in the amniotic fluid showed lower value of isoelectric point than that in the maternal or cord serum. 4) Percentage of ceruloplasmin and albumin cintents in the total proteins were significantly increased in amniotic fluid than in maternal serum. 5) Several proteins having lower molecular weight than that of prealbumin would not be originate from mother and fetal sera.
