Studies of Gastro-Mucosal Changes in the Patients with Chronic Liver Diseases

The relationship between chronic liver diseases and gastro-duodenal lesions was analized from the aspect of clinico-pathological changes in these organs. In the comparative study on the patients with chronic liver diseases and peptic ulcers, it was found that there was a positive correlation between these diseaes, and with advance of liver cirrhosis the incidence of peptic ulcer and erosion was increased. In order to evaluate causative factors of gastric ulcer and erosion in the patients with chronic liver diseases, the measurement of serum gastrin levels, gastric acid secretion and plasmin activity of gastric mucosa as well as the examination of the severity of esophageal varices, liver functions and morphology were performed. As the results, it was suspected that a lowered defence mechanism due to circulatory disturbance in the gastro-intestinal mucosa was an important causative factor in such a particular condition of liver diseases.
