Bone allotransplantation with a vascular pedicle was performed, in adult mongrel dogs, and the bone union was assessed both during administration of cyclosporin A (CyA) and after its fiscontinuation. The results of allotranspalantation of the stored frozen bone and autotransplantation of the bone with a vascular pedicele were also compared. In allotransplantation with a vascular pedicle, no systemic side effects due to CyA were noted, and bony union was obtained in nearly the asme period as for autotransplantation of the bone. After discotinuation of CyA administration, the transplanted bone was rejected rapidly, but union was maintained. The transplanted bone was replaced at both ends by fresh bone which was considered to be derived from the recipient. In contrast, following of the transplanted bone. Thus, good bony union can be obtained by the allotransplantation of bone with a vascular pedicale and the short-term administration of CyA, since even when CyA is discontinued the skeletal structure is maintained intact.
