In order to analyze the effect of the clinical basic nursing training on the formation process of nursing students' verbal communication readiness, using the role-play technique, verbal communication processes between students-as-a-nurse and students-as-a-patient are recorded and categorized based on a revised version of Bales' Category System method, and analyzed. As to the first response, negative emotional response decreased dramatically. And, to the contrary, positive emotional, answering, and questioning resposes increased as well from May till January. As to the last response, negative emotional response decreased and 'no response' increased from May till January. 'No response' decreased, and, positive emotional and answering responses increased from January till February. In experiencing the clinical basic nursing training, students were acquiring the communication readiness for helping care. However,their acquisition level was not good enough because positive emotional response remained around 20%. Also, 'no response' and answering response amounted to around 20% and 40% respectively.
