A clinico-Satistical observation was performed on 105 cases of maxillofacial fractures at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Yamaguchi University Hospital during the five years from 1989 to 1993. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The male/female ratio was approximately 2:1. 2. Of the 105 patients, 66.7% were aged 10-39 years, with a peak incidence of fractures occurring in the 20-29 year age group. 3. The most common cause of injury was falls(41.9% of all cases). 4. 85 of the cases were found in the mandible, 11 cases in the maxilla, and 9 cases in the combined mandible andmaxilla. 5. Forty-nine cases were treated by close reduction, while forty-two cases were treated by open technique.
