The purpose of this paper is to make clear the seismic activity in Yamaguchi Prefecture in the past and the future. First, we collected earthquake data in Yamaguchi, Tokyo and Osaka Prefectures and set up a data base of the data. Based on the data base, the maximum ground acceleration in these prefectures were estimated using commonly used attenuation laws. Then, we estimated the expected maximum ground acceleration in the future with the aid of a probabilistic technique. The maximum value in Yamaguchi Prefecture was from one-third to a half of those in Tokyo and Osaka Prefectures.
