This paper reports experimental results on the consolidation characteristics of clay-quicklime system concerned with the quicklime pile method and the multiple strip-sandwich method, a new method for embankment construction with cohesive soils. Consolidation tests on quicklime specimens were performed to investigate the expansive characteristics of them during water supplying. Several kinds of triaxial compression tests were also carried out on clay-quicklime system in drained and undrained conditions. From these experiments useful informations were obtained concerning with the consolidation mechanism of clay-quicklime system.
