Public facilities frequently suffer damages from a heavy rainfall. It is very difficult for us to prevent the heavy rainfall damages, because their causes depend on many factors, such as the ways of land use in the region and the rainfall types and amounts. This paper aims to clarify the relation between the rainfall amounts and the public facility damages in the case of Baiu heavy rainfall in 1972. The general relation between total rainfall amounts and damages are discussed first. The relation between the maximum 3 hour and 1 hour rainfall amounts and damages are discussed taking account of the heavy rainfall classification proposed by Ochi (1973). The different damage types of local cities are found by principal component analysis.
