It is important on a seismic design of foundation to study dynamic soil properties. In this study, shear modulus and hysteretic damping of dense dry sands were obtained using the dynamic simple shear test apparatus. From these results, it is clear that shear modulus, hysteretic damping and volume change are dependent on the shear strain and the vertical stress. We considered that the hysteretic loops change to ellipse type from bilinear type with the increment of the shear strain, therefore ”skeleton”, which is the relation between the restoring force and the deformation, is varied with the shear strain.
