Dynamical stress distributions of tools and work pieces during the shaping, the turning and the milling were studied with the photoelastic method. The effect of cutting by the tool having built-up edge was investigated. Experimental specimens of tools were prepared from epoxy resin and mild steel and work pieces from 2-8 mixed polyester and alminium plate. Dynamical isochromatic fringe patterns were photographed with the synchronous method by a strobo apparatus continuously during the cutting operation.
