A Meaning of ”TUKURI” in Life Environment Studies I : Figunative Activity and ”TUKURI”

The aim of this paper is to clarify how the creative ability should be developed through Life Environment Studies. ”TUKURI”refers to whole culture that human being has ever created, such as, ”way oflife”,”social system”, and ”mental structu”. Here, among the mental structure, the ability of making things or formative ”TUKURI” is dealt with. Comparing the ability of human being to that of other animals, three characteristics have been noticed. They are: 1)ability of making things 2)discovery and utilization of tools for making things 3)combination of various means for making things In the act of children from new-bom to about eight years old, these three characteristics will always be found according with the level of their growth. In order to strive for the full development of children's abinty of formative ”TUKURI” from Life Environmental Studeies' standpoint, teacher should be aware of: 1)approving children's whole act of making things, and 2)attaching importance to cildren's act of cutting things.
