Psychological experiments and analyses have been done to investigate whether there is a difference among 3 grades and between boys and girls in the attitude of junior high school students toward music. To measure their attitude, the Semantic Differential (SD) method was used. As subjeds, 335 students in junior high schools attached to Faculty of Education, Yamaguchi University and a public junior high school in Yamaguchi city were selected. The subjects rated their impressions about music on a five point scale which consisted of 43 bipolar adjectives such as Cheerful/Sad, Bright/Dark, Beautiful/Not Beautiful, Favorite/Distasteful. The data obtained were analyzed by factor analysis (principal factor method). As a result of the analyses, several significant factors were obtained in each group and, on the whole, a slight difference among 3 grades and between boys and girls in the attitude of students toward music was recognized from each factor structures.
