MedicinaI Plants in oosima-gun､Yamaguti Prefecture

Concerning the medicinal plants in the Oosima-gun, Yamaguti Prefecture,the historical changes of their cultivation, production and kinds were discussed in this article. According to the Hudo-Tyusin-an(one of the official records of the Hagi clan),220 species of the medicinal plants were known in the Oosima-gun in 1842, and about 45 species among them are supposed to have been cultivated there.Z.NIKAl in 1923 mentioned 197 species of the wild medicinal plants in Yamaguti Prefecture,and 130 species out of them were found in the Oosima-gun. Ln 1954 I.HINO and K.0KA found 373 species in this district, and about130 species out of them were planted in the garden according to the writers. The principal medicinal plants cultivated in the oosima-gun were the safflower and the pyrethrum. The safflower seemed to had been largely cultivated till the nineteenth century,though its cultivation was extinct at the end of the same century.・・・
