1. The cross section of rice kernel o imperfect grain of rice(non-glutinous) and glutinous rice were observed by scanning electron microscope. 2. The starch cells of the white opaque endosperm tissue of milky white rice, white-belly rice and opaque-kernel rice were composed of starch granules of various sizes. The narrow vacant spaces were observed between the starch granules and also between the starch cells. 3. The feature of endosperm tissue of glutinous rice similar to that of ordinary non-glutinous rice. However, there was a small cavity at the centre of each single starch granule in compound starch granules of glutinous rice. (Received June 30. 1975)
