Oosima, the 3rd largest island in the Inland Sea, has a favourable climate for the growth of citrus. The citrus fruit produced in Oosima is very good in quality, and is always sold at higher prices than the citrus fruit from other areas. The Oosima Town officials have planed to extend the areas of citrus cultivation. This soil survey was conducted to serve the Town's extension plan. The soil profiles, etc. were surveyed in the areas. Then the mechanical analy-sis and the chemical analysis of the surface soil as well as the subsoil were con-ducted in the laboratory of Yamaguti University Based on the results obtained, several suggessions were given on the improve-ment of each soil unit, and the methods for manuring to get good production of citrus fruit were also studied.
