Descriptions
1 . Abnormal germination of rice seeds was recognized during raising of young seedling. In the abnormally germinated seedlings, almost no elongation was showed in seminal root and while coleoptyle had elongated remarkably with curve or winding. 2 . It was maked clear that the abnormal germination was due to some substance contained within the soil used for raising. 3 . The substance caused this abnormal germination is easily transuded in water and is lost or disturb the negative geotropism of coleoptyle (plant top). 4 . The effects to germination of this substance are very similar to that of herbicide, phenoxy compound as 2 , 4-D . (Received July 1 , 1974)
