Adenine-1-N-oxide was made by the N-oxidation of ribonucleic acid with glacial acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide according to the ordinary manner, and the mechanisms of formation of adenine-1-N-oxide were examined by using paper chromatography. The colouration of chromatogram was performed with P_<AULY> reagent. P_<AULY> regent was very suitable for the colouration of adenine-1-N-oxide and it's decomposed products, such as 4-aminoimidazole-5-carboxamidoxime and 4-aminoimidazole-5-carboxamide, with hydrochloric acid.
