The influence on the heading time, the number of leaves and grains of the main stem and the number of ears was investigated with five varieties of rice plants when different methods of rice culture were adopted in relation to the culture period such as early, normal or late season culture. The results obtained were as follows : (1) The number of days from the sowing to the heading decreased as the sowing was delayed, and the decrease was greater in the late varieties in pro- portion to the lateness. (2) The leaves of the main stem decreased in number as the sowing was delayed. (3) The grains of the main stem was the greatest in number and the number of ears was the smallest when the late season culture was adopted.
