水稲の水耕栽培による珪酸の効果について試験した。使用水は蒸溜水を用い,生育中は初期で5~6日,毎最盛期で1~3日毎に水耕液を更新した。また殆ど毎日pH調整を行った。 その結果収穫期において,珪酸加用区は珪酸無加用区にくらべ草丈著しく高く,だいたい圃場栽培の水稲一株と同様であり,また籾は良く充実し,玄米は普通であり,粟や籾における病斑の発生はほとんどなかった。 これにくらべて珪酸無加用区は茎数は劣らないが草丈著るしく低く,出穂したが籾はあまり充実せず粉面及び葉には褐色の斑点を多数発生し,屑米を極少量得たに過ぎなかった。The experiment was conducted in a water culture, and rice plants were grown in 3.5 1iter glazed earthenware pots.The culture solution was made with distilled water, and renewed every 1-6 days. The silica was supplied as colloidal solution which was grown in culture solution by neutralizing Na-silicate with HCL The pH of the solution was regulated to 6-6.5 almost every day. The following results were obtained. In the mature time, the silica supplied rice plants had grown normally just the same as in the field, and bore good rice grains, and the plants had almost no aymtoms of diseases. The silica unsupplied rice plants at this time、 were low in height,and bore rice grains abnormally small, brownish or dark green, with yield of only about one eighth of that of silica supplied rice plants. There were a great many numbers of brown spots of diseases on the leaves and hulls.
