1. The surfaces of the cross section of starch cell layers of endosperm tissue of rice kernel of imperfect grain of rice (white-ridge, basal-white, flank-white, partially-chalky, green kernel and immature kernel) were observed by scanning electron microscope. 2. The starch cells of translucent part of endosperm tissue were densely filled with polygonal, large compound starch starch granules, as was in normal kernel. 3. The starch cells of white opaque part were composed of comparatively round conpound starch granules of various sizes (smal-large). Between compound starch granules and also between the starch cells, the narrow vacant spaces were observed. (Received June 30. 1976)
