Descriptions
The effects of repeated injections of epinephrine on glycogenolysis and lipolysis in chickens were investigated. The results obtained were as follows. 1. After a single injection of epinephrine, plasma glucose and cyclic AMP levels in chickens gradually increased with time, but plasma nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels decreased. 2. By repeated injections of epinephrine for 20 days, the extent of increase in plasma glucose and cyclic AMP levels by epinephrine injection became smallre, but the extent of decrease in plasma NEFA levels were not modified. 3. The effects of epinephrine repeated injections on glycogennolysis and lipolysis did not vary with age of chicen. 4. The glycogenolytic response to epineohrine in chickens was similar to that in mammals, but the lipolytic response was different. 5. It was suggested that the increase in plasma glucose level by injection of epinephrine under starved condition was mediated through beta-adrenergic receptors, but not under fed condition.
