The efficacy of shower-rinse on reducing the microbial load on a coin-laundry washer (Sanyo) was examined using three kinds microorganisms. The bacterial counts on the three sites (upper, middle and lower) of wash-tub, whitch had been experimentally contaminated with microorganisms, were performed before and after shower-rinsing. The reduction rate was the highest on the lower site and the middle site followed this, and the minimum effect was seen on the upper site. Escherichia coli (gram-negative rod) was more easily removed by shower-rinsing than Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive coccus) and Candida albicans (fungus). E.coli was not detected on the middle and lower sites after shower-rinsing : however, considerable amounts of S. aureus and C. albicans still remained all the three sites. Although in this study larger volume of flowing water was used for shower-rinsing than in the previous study, its removing effect was not so good.
