Effect of Serum on the Cell Kinetics of Mouse L_5 Cells

The effect of serum on the cell kinetics of mouse L_5 cell culture was investigated, refering to the growth rate, population doubling time, the duration of each phase length, growth fraction and cell loss factor. With the decrease of serum concentration in the culture medium, the growth rate was greatly decelerated due to prolongation of the cell cycle time which was mostly attributable to the increase in G_1 length.However, G_1 was not completely arrested even in the medium with 0.5% serum. It was considered that the increased cell loss factor was due to the decrease of cell production rate.
