本論は,古代地中海世界における中庭式の住宅の形成過程に関する論考の内,ギリシャ住宅を特徴付ける列柱廊「パスタス」とヘレニズム期を特徴付ける回廊式の列柱廊「ペリスタイル」を中心に扱った部分である。ギリシャにおける「パスタス」は,作業用空間として利用されたが,アッテイカやオリュントスにみられる郊外住宅において,「パスタス」が拡張されて「パスタス・ペリスタイル」へと変化した場合も,その機能は作業用空間であった。したがって,接客空間に用いられたヘレニズムにおける「ペリスタイル」は,「パスタス・ペリスタイル」とは別の機能を持つ空間としてとらえるべきである。
