Recent studies have suggested that HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) attenuate the growth of human abdomical aortic aneurysm (AAA), which is characterized by chronic inflammation and degradation of the extracellular matrix by metalloproteinases (MMPs). While the effects of statins on inflammatory proteins have been reported, the molecular mechanism for the effect of statins on human AAA is largely unknown. Thus, the aim of this study was to elucidate the direct effect of statin on proinflammatory mediators in human AAA walls.
