This study analyzed works completed by children in the Taisho period from a moral perspective.Written compositions and calligraphic works stored at Bakuro Elementary School were examined. While considering changes in the content of moral education from the Meiji period to the pre-war period,a moral analysis of the work content was conducted. The study found that although students’ pictorial work reflected the principle of Taisho liberal education, the leading educational ideology during those days, the content of the calligraphic works often reflected the principles of moral education since government-designated calligraphy textbooks were used to provide examples for the children. For written compositions, the number of titles related to the principles of moral education tended to increase slightly in the late Taisho period.
