In recent years, the collection mechanisms of granular packed beds have been investigated and considered to be a suitable filter for the treatment of high temperature, corrosive and combustible gases. In this report, the filtration performance of the packed beds was experimentally investigated using beds of various thicknesses and varying fluid velocities. Dust collection characteristics inside the bed were estimated, and the effects of the specific deposit of dust on the collection efficiency and on the pressure drop were discussed. The results show that the dust collection characterristics change with the bed depth and with time duration. The effect of the specific deposit of dust on the collection efficiency is most significant at low fluid velocity.
