The effect of the separating shear layer characteristics on the structure of the flow downstream of the reattachment region of a backward-facing step is examined using wall pressure distribution and mean velocity data at a unit Reynolds number of 9.92×(10)^5m^<-1>. The reattachment length X_R/h is 6.78 in this study. Log plots of the mean velocity profiles downstream of reattachment show that the disturbance in the boundary layer is primarily in the outer part of the log region. The inner part of the profile relaxed rather quickly.
