The present study enrolled 64 Japanese patients with facial skin cancers who were cared for at the Dermatology Clinic of Yamaguchi University Hospital from January, 1991 , through December, 1996. Out of the 64, 28 (43.8010) were basal cell carcinoma, 21 (32.8%) were squamous cell carcinoma, 5 (7.8%) were malignant melanoma or trichilemmal carcinoma, 2 (3.2%) were Bowen's disease or angiosarcoma, and 1 (1 .6%) was metastatic cancer from the esophagus. The annual incidence of basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma has been gradually increased, but it was not statistically significant. The most common occurring sites of basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma were nose and cheeks, respectively. The management of cutaneous defect after resection of the facial skin cancers has been very easy by using biomembranes.
