Descriptions
Alkaline earth elements could be separated from alminium, titanium and zirconium by ascending paper chromatography with pyridine-H_2O-EtOH-HCl (8 : 16 : 1 : 1 by volume). The separated magnesium was eluted complately from the chromatogram section by 5ml of 0.1N hydrochloric acid in the test tube. The eluted solution was introduced into flame of atomic-absorption spectrophotometer and the absorption was measured. The application of this method to determinations of magnesium above 0.05% in aluminum alloys brought.
