Based upon the analysis of ileus patients treated in our surgical service from 1972 through 1976, the following results were obtained : 1)There were 105 patients with various kinds of ileus. 2)Adhesion ileus occurred in approximately 70 per cent of the patients who had one or more histories of abdominal surgery, and they frequently followed by gastrectomy, appendectomy, histerectomy, cholecystectomy, and so on. There were, on the contrary, highly seen cancer of the rectosigmoidal segment, intersusception and strangulation ileus in the patients without any history of laparotomy. 3) Conservative measure were done in 38 cases with success, and others were subjected to several operations. Five out of 67 cases operated were died (monthlity rate of 7.5 per cent)
