Each of the main metabolites of trichloroethylene (TRI), i. e., chloral hydrate (CH), free-trichloroethanol (F-TCE) and trichloroacetiv acid (TCA) was administered to the dogs which were established extrahepatic circulation by-passes and of which hepatic circulation were shut off by operation and the same drugs were also administered to the control dogs. Subsequently, the concentraitons of the administered substances and the respective metabolites in the serum and urine weredetermined eveery 30 minutes for 2 hours. The results obtained were as follows. 1. It was found that both metabolism of CH to F-TCE and to TCA, F-TCE to TCA and TCA to F-TCE and conjugation of F-TCE were performed in the extrahepatic organs as well as in the liver. 2. The metabolic rate of CH to F-TCE in the extrahepatic organs was presumed to be comparable to that in the liver. 3. The metabolic rate of CH to TCA seemed to be below compared with that in the liver. 4. It seemed that F-TCE is less conjugated in the extrahepatic organs than in the liver. 5. Leukopenia which was observed after the administration of TRI was not produced after the administration of CH, F-TCE and TCA.
