        C3H/He mice treated with LPS were hourly sacrificed to study the morphological changes of the Kupffer cells and hepatocytes. Lght microscopically, the Kupffer cells showed swelling between the 5th and 24th hour. Ultrastructually, the Kupffer cells showed chromatin margination and swollen cytoplasms with many phagosomes containing erythrocytes and platelets etc. In the cytoplasms of hepatocytes, swollen mitochondria with lucent matrix were demonstrated particulary between the 5th and 12th hour, which might show the inhibition of mitochondrial respiration. Autophagosomes, suggesting cellular injuries by LPS, increased in number between the second and 24th hour.…
