We performed peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) in 4 patients with solid cancers including breast cancer, lung small cell cancer, undifferentiated carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of unknown origin. The patients with breast cancer and adenocarcinoma entered partial remission after PBSCT and lived for more than a year. A patient with lung small cell cancer entered complete remission after PBSCT, but relapsed 7 months later and died. A patient with undifferentiated cartinoma entered partial remission after first PBSCT, but aggravated and died after second PBSCT. Although the clinical usefulness of PBSCT for breast cancer is generally recognized, the indication for other solid cancers remains to be elucidated and cautiously designed clinical studies are necessary before conclusion.
