This paper provides an overview of the development of microcredit projects operated by Non-government Organizations (NGO) in China and discusses the challenges for further development. This paper concludes with presenting some potential initiatives to address key restrictive issues faced by China's NGO microcredit development and suggests that policy makers should encourage the development of NGO microcredit by establishing China-specific policy, legislative, regulatory and supervisory frameworks.
