Species composition and seasonal abundance of ground beetles in a vineyard of Yamaguchi University Farm were studied by pitfall trapping for a one year period beginning March 1985. A total of 4395 specimens belonging to 26 species of Carabidae and Brachinidae were caught. Five species-Harpalus tridens, Anisodactylns punclalipennis, Amara chalcites, Chlaenius micans and Pheropsophus jessoensis-were dominant. Seasonal abundance of the beetles, microhabitat of the dominant species and comparison to the ground beetle diversity in adjacent agroecosystems and a forest are also descrobed.
