本稿は、山口大学の学生が入学時、卒業時にどのような資質・能力を保有し、卒業時に保有する能力は大学で養われたものなのかどうか、また、大学に対する満足度は大学時代のどのような要因が関連しているのかを入学区分別に分析することにより、特にAO学生の特異性を明らかにしようとするものである。調査結果から、保有する資質・能力に関して、AO学生は入学時には他の入学区分と比べ特異な層の学生であるが卒業時には入学時ほどの特異性が見られなくなること、満足度に関しては入学区分別の差はなく、満足度が高い学生は資質・能力が大学で養われ、卒業時に保有する資質・能力が高く、大学時代にさまざまな活動に取り組んだ学生であること、そしてAO学生が他の入学区分と比べ、大学時代にさまざまな活動に取り組んだ傾向にあることが明らかになった。
