It has been generally recognized and experimentally demonstrated that a principal and final cause of the death of globefish poisoning is due to the asphyxiation. To confirm the nature of asphyxiation, that is whether it is due to an external or tissue respiration, the amounts of blood gases of poisoned animals (rabbits)and separately the oxygen consumption by various tissues removed from poisoned mice were determined. Determination of blood CO_2 was carried out by the van Slyke method and that of O_2 by the slightly modified Barcroft method. Oxygen consumptions by the tissues of liver, kidneys, ileum, heart and skeletal muscle were determined with the Warburg manometer. The following results were obtained. ...
