This paper contends that engendering development is essential in ensuring that both men and women are able to contribute their full potential to development and benefit from the development process. After providing a brief overview of gender status in Malaysia using key indicators the paper examines the extent to which gender concerns are articulated in development policy. The next section of the paper examines key sreas where gender discrimination persists and in some instances is perpetuated. The concluding part of the pater highlights the various challenges that arise with respect to gender in critical areas of development concern.
