Analysis of twenty patients with aneurysm of the aorta and peripheral arteried who operated upon at Yamaguchi University Hospital from April, 1965 to March, 1974 ewvwaled the follwings : (1) The majority of the aortic aneurysms were atherosclerotic in origin, and there was found preopratively a high incidence of myo-cardial damage, hypertension and renal dysfunction. Three of four aneurysms of the peripheral arteries ware caused by the arterial catheterization. (2) Out of sixteen thoracic and abdominal aneurysms, eight ruptured before surgery. All of them were sized more than 6cm in diameter, so such big aneurysms should be operated upon as soon as possible even if asymptomatic. (3) Out of twelve patients with aortic aneurysms undergoing surgery, six died whose diseases consisted of aneurysms og the aortic arch (1 case), high (2 cases) and low (1 case) abdominal aorta, and aortoiliac segment (2 cases). (4) Some considerations for the improvement of mortality and morbidity were attemped.
