アレルギー性皮膚炎発症犬21頭中10頭に抗アレルギー薬tranilast 10mg/kgを平均2.8週間、あるいは両方を投与した1頭を含む12頭にoxatomide 1mg/kgを平均4.7週間経口投与した。Tranilastについては応答率50％（6頭）、Halliwellの分類による改善率47.8％で、oxatomideについては応答率60％（6頭）、改善率46.4％であり、両剤とも治療効果は不十分であった。無症状犬12頭にtranilast 10mg/kgあるいは60mg/kg、oxatomide 1mg/kgあるいは10mg/kgをそれぞれ30日間投与してヒスタミン放出促進物質compound 48/80の皮内注射法により検討したところ、oxatomide 10mg/kg投与群に著明な肥満細胞ヒスタミン放出抑制効果が認められた。
