Abstract
本稿の目的は、植民地であったアジアの国が近代国家として独立し、国民形成をしていく過程の中で学校の音楽教育がはたしてきた役割を、シンガポールとインドネシアの事例の比較をとおして考察することである。近代とは常に更新されるものであり、よって19世紀後半に近代国家への転換をはかった日本と、20世紀後半に近代国家として独立したアジアの国々が取り入れた近代は同じものではない。本稿では、シンガポールとインドネシアに着目し、近代化と西洋化が同義であった時代に国民の音楽文化として西洋芸術音楽の普及をはかった日本と、文化相対主義の時代に国家となった両国の国民の音楽文化と音楽教育をめぐる認識と選択の違いを論じていく。
