Two cases of stage IV non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma ( NHL ) refractory to conventional chemotherapy, were successfully treated by high dose chemotherapy follwed by the peripheral blood stem cell transplantation ( PBSCT ). Case 1 was characterized by generalized lymphadenopathy and high leukocyte count with lymphoma cell infiltration. After PBSCT, the patient entered complete remission and was free of relapse for more than a year. Case 2 was characterized by the marked hepato-splenomegaly, and infiltration of blood by lymphoma cells. After the first PBSCT, hepato-splenomegaly markedly reduced, however, the infiltration of liver by lymphoma cells remained, which was detected by the laparoscopic biopsy specimen. After the second PBSCT, infiltration in the liver completely disappeared, and the patient entered complete remission. The usefulness of PBSCT for the refractory cases of NHL was discussed.
